5 Hacks For Drawing The Perfect Cat Eye
There’s nothing quite as alluring as the perfectly shaped cat eye. And with all the different styles, there’s sure to be a design that fits your taste. Yet sometimes drawing a cat eye can be daunting, especially if you’ve never done it before. You may think you have to be some kind of Rembrandt to get it right, or at least have a steady hand. Below are several ways to get the perfect cat eye—no overly fancy art skills required.
Handling The Basics
For a cat eye, liquid eyeliner works the best. You don’t have to worry about having the sharpest pencil for the clearest designs. The thinnest of eyeliner brushes will do the trick.
To make the perfect cat eye:
- Start by drawing a slanted line from the outer corner of the eye. It should form roughly a 110-degree angle with the edge of the eye.
- Then draw an inward curved line back towards the eye that starts at a third of the way down the first line.
- You should be left with an upside down, curved pyramid that has a lined tip at the outer point.
- Fill in the pyramid
- Then add a thicker line along the top eyelash that tappers off in width near the inside of the eye.
As you paint the pattern on, try to draw lines back towards the eye, rather than slanting lines away. That will guide your hand as you aim for an endpoint to the line. If you’re the type who doesn’t have steady hands, you could end up veering in a direction you never intended to go otherwise.
Get A Spoon
Yes, a spoon. A spoon provides the perfect straight edge and sweeping arch to trace along. Just hold the handle of the spoon to your eye to draw a straight line, and use the round part of the spoon to draw the sweeping arched line. It’s like spoons were made for drawing the perfect cat eye.
The Dotting Technique
If you’re worried about getting the perfect line, dot along where you want the pattern to be. Then fill in between the dots. That will act as a guide for your hand. Just make sure the dots are small.
Use Tape
You can even use clear tape to guide your cat eye lines. Just put the tape on your skin right by your eye, and use the tape as a straight edge. It’s like the spoon, but this way you have both hands available.
Petroleum Jelly For Mistakes
Even if you use all these hacks, no one’s perfect. You’re bound to make mistakes, especially while practicing. For when you do, don’t feel like you have to wipe your eye and start all over again. That just wastes makeup. Instead, put some petroleum jelly on a Q-tip and wipe away the eyeliner mistakes you don’t want. Think of it like an eraser on the back of the proverbial eyeliner pencil.
There you have it. Now you can rock your own perfect cat eye!
