It’s really a shame we can’t just snap our fingers and have our makeup removed in an instant. While you’re still a superwoman, no one has that super power, unfortunately. However, we’ve rounded up a variety of creative, DIY methods for removing your makeup with little to no effort—this means none of that scrubbing and rubbing that leaves your face red and dry. Check out these 7 different ways to remove your makeup!

Remove your makeup with oils

Use coconut, almond, olive, or jojoba oil to remove your makeup. Typical cleansers tend to strip your skin of natural oils, causing your skin to get dry and require more from your topical moisturizer. Oil-free cleansers have even been known to lead to premature aging. Using oils like coconut, almond, olive, or jojoba cleanse the skin and remove makeup, without over-drying it. These oils are best for removing heavily pigmented lipsticks and waterproof mascara. Our tip? Mix olive oil with a little rose water for sensitive or particularly dry skin. Keep an eye on your pores, though. Oils can clog the pores, so be sure to use a clay mask once or twice a week to keep your pores tight and clean.

DIY witch hazel makeup remover

Witch hazel is known for locking in moisture and clearing up acne, and guess what?! It makes a fantastic makeup remover! Witch hazel is even better for removing makeup when paired with an oil. Try a couple tablespoons of witch hazel with a couple of tablespoons of a carrier oil—like the ones mentioned above. You can also use water instead of oil.

DIY aloe vera and honey makeup remover

Aloe vera gel and honey are both beneficial to the skin because of their abilities to nourish skin and remove impurities. Combine equal parts aloe vera gel and honey, and then add 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil for every cup of the mixture. This DIY makeup remover doubles as a face mask, so let the mixture sit on your face for a minute or two before rinsing off.

Get steamy!

Steam as a makeup remover? Yes!! Fill your sink with steaming hot water (not boiling) and lean over top, with your face close to the steam, for a few minutes. The steam will unclog your pores and make it easier to remove your makeup with regular face wash. This is also a great technique to try right before removing makeup with one of the oils mentioned earlier. Alternatively, you can soak a washcloth in hot water and place it over your face until it cools, and your makeup and dirt will come off easily.

Save some cucumber from your green juice

Dermatologist Dr. Indu Ballani told NDTV Food that “Most of the beauty products use cucumber to help remove makeup. So instead of heading to the store, take one cucumber and blend it into a paste. Cucumbers have anti-inflammatory properties, so they will help to soothe irritated skin or acne-prone skin.” Use your blender to turn a cucumber into a paste and add a little carrier oil and use it to remove your makeup and cleanse the skin.

Good ol’ makeup remover

A store-bought makeup remover is not out of the question. There are many great makeup removers on the market! Look for an oil-based makeup remover for the best results. Avoid using baby wipes or makeup remover wipes. These wipes often don’t contain the ingredients needed to remove long-lasting makeup, and baby wipes are certainly not meant for adult women’s faces.

Use your face wash—but read this first

Yes, you can simply use your face wash. However, this can be very drying to the skin, so make sure you follow up with a high quality moisturizer and night cream. Face wash can also be too light for heavy duty makeup, so this is a better option for people who wear less makeup.
