7 Hacks To Reduce Eye Puffiness

In the perfect world, we’d all get our exact required amount of sleep and puffy eyes wouldn’t be an issue. This article could simply read, “get some sleep,” we’d all do it and that would be the end of puffy eyes for good.

But life loves to get in the way of a good night’s rest. Between basic stress, late night commitments or novels you can’t put down, chances are, you’ll be dealing with puffy eyes at some point, so below are several hacks for reducing dark marks and eye puffiness.

Black Tea Bags

The most popular home remedy for puffy eyes is, of course, tea bags. The tannins in the tea constrict blood vessels, which reduces puffiness. Simply place two cool, wet tea bags under each of your eyes and leave them for 15 minutes a few times per day.

Cucumber Slices

A woman with cucumber slices over her eyes is one of the images we all conjure when we think of home beauty. It’s because cucumbers even reduce the redness in eyes, as well as getting rid of puffiness. Simply slice up a chilled cucumber, and place one slice over each eye for 30 minutes.

Just Add Ice

When in doubt, some simple cool ice packs will reduce the swelling and puffiness under eyes. Make sure to put a towel between your skin and the ice pack to avoid damaging skin. Leave on your under-eye area for about 10 minutes.

In the same vein, you could also run some spoons under some cold water for a couple minutes, and then hold them to your under-eye area for a minute. Then cool the spoon again. Repeat until the swelling is decreased. That will add the same coolness without being too extreme for the skin.

Avocado

This powerful superfood has long been reputed to reduce puffiness under the eyes. Cut up a fresh avocado and place the slices under your eyes. Leave for about 15 minutes, longer if you want stronger results. Check every five minutes after the 15-minute mark.

Hemorrhoid Cream

Hemorrhoid cream is a little on the controversial side. The cream is supposed to reduce swelling, but the smell can be strong, and there’s the stigma of putting something that’s meant for, uh, down there on your face. But it’s a strong agent for reducing the puffiness and wrinkles of troubled under-eye areas. Just apply the cream under your eyes, making sure to keep it out of your eyes.

Egg Whites

Egg whites have long been used to hydrate skin, and they can naturally tighten skin. Simply separate two eggs, and whip up the whites until they are stiff. Apply them to your skin under your eyes, and leave them for about 10 minutes. You can also add several drops of witch hazel toner for extra astringent properties.

Potatoes

The starch in potatoes is reputed to cause anti-inflammatory properties on the skin. If you have some potatoes, it’s worth a try. This method requires peeling the potatoes, washing them and grinding them to a pulp to release the juices better. Put the ground potatoes in cheesecloth, and then put that under your eyes for 30 minutes.
