8 Beauty Hacks To Naturally Whiten Nails

We all know how obnoxious it is to have yellow teeth, and there are tons of products on the market to get those pearly whites to reach spotlight levels of brightness. But there seems to be little love on how to whiten nails. Yet if you have nails you’d wish were a little brighter, there are tons of DIY ways to naturally whiten nails.

We’ve also got nail drying hacks for a quicker mani!

Whitening Toothpaste

An obvious, but overlooked, solution is to apply all those whitening toothpastes on the market directly to your nails. Simply place a small dot of toothpaste on each nail, scrub with a clean brush and then let it sit for several minutes and rinse.

Nail Whitening Pencil

If you’re in a real rush, you can get a nail whitening pencil to whiten nails on the go. It’s like a concealer for your nails, essentially. You apply it to temporarily cover up any stains on your nails. It won’t fix the stain, but it may just get you out of the house in a pinch.

Clear Basecoat

One of the biggest offenders for staining nails is, of course, dark nail polish. Apply a clear basecoat to the nail and let it dry before you put on your visible nail polish. That will prevent staining in the future.

White Vinegar

Another natural stain lifter is white vinegar. For this, you’ll need to dilute the vinegar by adding a splash of it to a cup of water. Soak your nails for about ten minutes, and then wash your hands.

Denture Cleaner

This is on the decidedly unsexy side, but that same product used to brighten dentures can also work on your nails. Most of these come in a tablet, so make sure the tablet is dissolved completely in some warm water. Soak your nails in the solution for several minutes, and then wash your hands. You may really need to use this method a few times per week to see gradual results.

Lemon Juice

This natural favorite to whiten nails is great for lighting anything, from hair to dark spots. So it’s a great choice for lighting nails. You could go about this several ways. Either dip your nails into some freshly squeezed lemon juice, or rub the lemon directly on your nails, doing each method for several minutes. If lemon juice directly feels too strong, you can dilute the lemon juice with some warm, soapy water. The soap will further help remove the stains.

Hydrogen Peroxide & Baking Soda

This classic combo is great at lifting all kinds of stains. Combine 3% hydrogen peroxide with baking soda to form a paste. Slather the paste on your nails, and let it sit for several minutes. Then rinse it off.

Know When To See A Doctor

If you have chronically yellow nails, rather than the occasional stain, that could be an underlying medical condition. It could be a fungal infection, or something more internal. Make sure to get checked by a doctor in these instances. In cases like these, you’ll likely only see results when an underlying medical condition is addressed.
