Whenever I get a notification that Sephora is having a major sale, I whisper a quick “Goodbye” to my paycheck as I stock up on all of my favorite products. I am on a never ending quest to have skin as flawless as Rihanna, which means I constantly check my Instagram feed for the latest beauty products that other bloggers and celebrities use and swear by.
Then, I realized that no one knows makeup better than the beauty gurus behind my favorite red carpet looks: makeup artists. I wanted to go behind the scenes to find out which products they personally use and love. This would make it so much easier to stick to the products that do what they claim to. I asked six makeup artists about the one beauty product that they can’t live without. You’re welcome.
1. Better Skin Mirakle Cream

Want sexier skin? Look no further. Katie Jane Hughes, celebrity makeup artist to A-listers Kerry Washington, Anna Kendrick, Greta Gerwig and more, said “I love the souffle like texture and how it glides onto the skin. The lush texture is beautiful and dewy under your fave tinted moisturizer.”
2. Bobbi Brown’s Under Eye Corrector

Makeup artist Kaitlin Utz calls this under eye corrector the holy grail of makeup. “I just love how well it corrects under eye discoloration and blends into my skin/other makeup,” she said. “Plus, it doesn’t get cakey or creasy like most correctors or concealers. It [also] lasts forever, [which] makes the price tag not seem so bad!”
3. Nudestix Lip & Cheek Balm (in Pulse)

If you love vegan products as much as we do, this next product will become your new obsession. New York City based makeup artist Kasey Adam Spickard, who has worked with top beauty brands such as Maybelline and Smashbox, never leaves home without this. “Everything from Nudestix is in a stick format so it’s super easy to grab and throw in your bag! I love this lip & cheek balm because it is the perfect pinky nude and moisturizing lip balm with great pigment,” he explained.
4. Smashbox Cosmetics Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder Foundation

There’s a reason all of Smashbox’s products fly off the shelves at Sephora. “One of the products I never leave home [without] is my Smashbox Cosmetics Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder Foundation,” says makeup artist and event personality Hillary Kline, a self-proclaimed makeup hoarder. “It’s a loose powder foundation and really helps cover any imperfections I might have. For a girl who has dry skin, this is also a lifesaver.”
5. Moroccan Magic Rose Lip Balm

Celebrity makeup artist Claire Doyle swears that this lip balm is the one thing you should throw in your purse. “Moroccan Magic Rose Lip Balm is a must have in my make-up kit. Clients always tell me how amazing it makes their lips feel over any other lip balm. It’s also a great multitasker and can be used to treat psoriasis, cuticles and other dry areas on the body.”
6. Bodyography Radiance Boost Liquid Luminzer

You’re stuck on an island and can only bring one beauty product with you. What would you bring? Makeup artist Margina Dennis puts this product at the top of her list. “This cleaner works on all skin tones, can be worn alone, mixed with your favorite foundation, on top of [or] even under a powder highlight to give it extra pop. [It] contains nourishing avocado oil and is gluten free and never greasy!”
7. Sonia Roselli Water Balm Skin Prep

Sonia Roselli’s Water Balm Skin Prep is one of celebrity and bridal makeup artist Toshi Szypra’s favs. “Water Balm is a day cream, night cream, serum, eye cream and makeup primer all in one. Makeup just goes on flawlessly over it.”
8. MAC Face and Body Foundation

If you like dewy skin without the heaviness of foundation, MAC Face and Body is for you. Makeup artist Georgi Sandev praises the product, saying “This foundation has a sheer to medium coverage and is fantastic to create the natural glowing complexion, without the weight of heavy makeup on your face. This foundation works well on leg makeup too.” Perfect for your next holiday party!
