One of the best things you can do for your skin is establish a great bedtime routine for your face. Everyone knows it’s easy to drift off to dreamland while not taking care of your skin. But if you make the extra effort to take care of your face, you can thank your skin later for that youthful glow.

Take off your makeup

The first thing to do for that youthful glow is to start by taking off your makeup with makeup remover or a makeup remover wipe. If you fall asleep with your makeup on, it sits on your face all night, stretching out pores and causing breakouts.

Cleanse

It’s important to wash all remaining makeup residue, dirt and oil off your face with a cleanser. Try one with salicylic acid if you’re prone to breakouts.

Exfoliate

This step isn’t necessary every night, but it’s important to exfoliate 2-3 times a week. If your skin is dry, you may want to do it less.

Tone

Use a toner that is specific for your skin type. If you’ve got dry skin, avoid one that contains alcohol. Using a toner will help remove any extra residue on your face.

Moisturize

After you have washed, exfoliated and applied toner to your face, the next step is to moisturize. Choose a moisturizer that is good for your skin type and take a few extra minutes to rub into dry areas of the face and body.

Integrate Vitamin A

As you age, the skin produces less collagen, which is an agent to keep your skin tight and firm. To help stimulate collagen production for a youthful glow, apply vitamin A retinoid each night.

Use eye cream

It’s important to focus on the skin around your eyes because it is thinner than skin anywhere else on the body. To add to that, it becomes even thinner as you age. This leads to hollowing and under-eye circles. Using an eye serum or cream with vitamins A, C, E or K will help lighten dark circles and repair skin.

Use a humidifier

Keeping your skin hydrated is important when it comes to obtaining a healthy, youthful glow. Putting a humidifier in your room will keep your skin from drying out. Hydrated skin is plumper and less prone to wrinkles.

Get your beauty sleep

There really is truth to the idea of getting beauty sleep. While having a great bedtime facial routine is important, it’s important to sleep enough, too. Getting the right amount of sleep each night ensures that your face is getting the right hormones and circulation to fully recuperate from the day. It’s essential to having a youthful glow to your skin.

If you’re tired after an exhausting day, the last thing you probably want to do is spend even more time on a facial routine. Remember that it’s important to take care of your face. After all, it’s endured a long day of makeup, pollution, weather and oil. Make sure you’re giving it the tender loving care that it deserves.
