Working out in the winter is hard. Going to the gym when it’s 26 degrees and windy outside doesn’t exactly sound like my ideal way of spending my Saturday morning. I’d like to get a workout in – because I just know how much better I’ll feel for the rest of the day – but if I’m being honest, I just don’t want to.

However, there is such a thing as working out at home. It’s not my preferred way of getting a sweat in, but if I’m in a hurry or just don’t feel like making the trek to the gym, I have a small arsenal of workouts that I can do in my living room while hoping my roommate doesn’t walk in. You could totally do these exercises at a gym too, but just know, they’re totally doable at home.

Keep your workout routine going this winter, even when it feels like death outside.

Squats

Squats are the exercise that I love and hate at the same time. There are many different variations you can do simply by adjusting the position of your feet – pointing forward, out, and in. This works different areas of your legs and butt, and trust me you’ll feel it the next day. Do 3 sets of 20.

Plank

Ah, the plank. This exercise works basically your whole body so there is nothing to lose by doing it. Your shoulders, thighs, and abdominals are all responsible for holding you up. Switch it up with a side plank to work your obliques and lose those love handles.

Ab exercises

One of my favorite bloggers, Cara Loren, is the best at posting fitness videos with circuits you can actually do at home. This simple ab workout can be done on the floor of your room. Add weights if you want, but 3 rounds of each exercise will kill your abs just enough.

Yoga

Yoga is one of my favorite workouts because it can be super difficult, but it’s not too hard on my body. You’re stretching, building up strength, and becoming more mindful all at the same time. I love searching for different yoga videos on YouTube, and you’d be surprised at how good the quality of workouts you can find. There are thousands of videos, so you’re bound to find a few that work for you.

Incorporating these workouts into your routine just a few times a week will make a world of a difference. Combined with a (mostly) healthy diet, you’re on your way to becoming Instagram’s next fitness model… okay, not really, but a girl can dream, right?
