It’s finally the holiday season. We’ve only been waiting for this time for pretty much the entire year. Not only can you pull out your unreasonably huge scarves, but you can also wear red lipstick at any time and no one will question your sanity. It’s time to spice up your beauty routine for the holidays.

If there’s any time that’s perfect for trying something new with your beauty routine, it’s the holidays. With endless parties, family gatherings and events to attend, beauty is something in which you have a little room for change. Here are my top five ideas for doing just that.

Add glitter

Nothing screams the holidays like glitter. Why not add a little to your eye look to spice up your beauty routine for the holidays? Pink, taupe, silver, gold, and green tones will look best with a bit of glitter on the center of the lid to complete your look. Just make sure you use a good glitter primer so it doesn’t fall off in five seconds and get all over your face—no one wants that.

(Also, if you haven’t checked out Kathleen’s YouTube channel (pictured above) you seriously need to. She’s hilarious and amazing at makeup and everything beauty.)

Try a facial oil

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that your skin has been feeling a little dry lately. The colder months take a toll on my skin, that’s for sure. One of the most genius things I’ve ever come across to combat extremely dry skin is using a facial oil. Don’t be scared. When my skin is needing some extra hydration, all I do is add 2-3 drops of the oil to my regular nighttime moisturizer and make sure to rub it in evenly. It feels a little greasy at first, but trust me it will sink in and make your skin feel like a baby’s bottom. Get some here.

Add gloss to dark lips

Dark matte lips are pretty much always in, but it’s a bit more rare to see a dark glossy lip. Apply anything from a normal lipstick formula to a liquid lipstick, topping it with a gloss that’s similar in color to spice up your beauty routine for the holidays. The shinier the better. Make sure to keep your eyes pretty neutral and not too dark, we don’t want anything taking away the beauty of a dark glossy lip.

Try deeper blush shades

It’s easy to stick to your usual peachy-nude pink blush shades, but here’s a challenge. Try using just a touch of a deeper shade, focusing the color on the outer part of your cheeks. Depending on your skin tone, you will probably only need to lightly touch your brush into the product once to get some color. You don’t want to go overboard. Keep the eyes and lips simple, and let the focus be on the cheeks for once!

Try brown mascara

If you’re more of a simple gal, try reaching for a brown mascara instead of a harsh black. This will provide definition to the lashes without overpowering your already beautiful eyes. The brown tone would look especially stunning with a light dusting of metallic eyeshadow all over the lid and into the crease. Natural really can be the better option sometimes.
