This underappreciated essential oil can help to boost your hair growth from the follicle while toning and conditioning your hair.

How to use rosemary oil for hair

The easiest way to experience the benefits of rosemary oil is by investing in a natural shampoo that contains this essential oil. Some of our favorite options are Avalon Organics’  Volumizing Rosemary Shampoo and Brandless’ Green Tea & Aloe Moisturizing Shampoo.

You could also try making a DIY serum hair mask with rosemary oil. To make this DIY hair mask, you’ll need pure rosemary oil, castor oil, and one egg. These nurturing ingredients will help to boost hair growth and improve the strength of your hair shafts. In a small bowl, combine the egg with 1-2 tablespoons of castor oil and about 5 drops of rosemary oil. Whisk everything together until all of the ingredients are blended evenly. To use the mask, apply a thick coating over your entire scalp, and massage it gently into your skin. Let it sit for 30-40 minutes, then wash it out with your favorite shampoo. Use this hair mask once every week or two for optimal results.

Finally, if you prefer a more low-key approach, you can dilute rosemary oil with a carrier oil–such as castor oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil–and massage it gently into your scalp as an overnight hair treatment. It’s important to dilute the rosemary oil with a carrier oil (about 2 drops of rosemary oil per 1 tablespoon of carrier oil) to ensure that the potent essential oil doesn’t irritate your scalp.
