New York Fashion Week is the foundation for what beauty, hair, and style trends we have to look forward to in the upcoming season. Designers put together much-anticipated outfits to showcase cutting edge fabric and print combinations, while makeup artists showcase innovative makeup looks we have yet to see. We’ve rounded up the hottest runway and backstage beauty trends so you won’t miss out on the most desirable styles of the season.

Contouring

Contouring is here to stay. This already-popular trend has led us to strobing and tontouring, but whatever method you prefer, the idea of highlighting and shading is the definition of beautiful makeup. Hood by Air exaggerated this trend by sending models down the catwalk with unblended faces.

Bangs

Bangs are on again, off again, but this season shaggy bangs are in according to Rebecca Minkoff, Alexander Wang, and Vera Wang. What we make of this is that bangs are always beautiful, so why not finally give them a try?

70s Hair

We saw a lot of 70s-inspired hairstyles from short bob curls with flower pins to loose beachy waves with a center part. Whichever style you prefer, the curls are key.

Pigtails

Yep, you heard that right. Pigtails aren’t just for little girls anymore. Wear them in braids or loose, but we suggest maybe toning down Thom Browne’s version shown above.

Gold Under-Eye Shadow

Swap your eye makeup routine by applying gold shimmery eye shadow below your eyes instead of on the top eyelid. Derek Lam turned gold eye shadow into a modern look by mastering this look on his models.

No Makeup

Okay, so we don’t literally mean no makeup, but a common trend seen on many runways, including Jason Wu and Zac Posen, was all-natural makeup with a bold lip color. This means go easy on the eye makeup and bronzer this season and stick with bold lipsticks that work well with your skin tone.
