You can tell what’s going on inside your body just by looking at your face. If your skin constantly breaks out, chances are that it’s trying to tell you something. This may sound crazy, but there’s a reason behind every breakout, whether it’s a hygiene issue or something deeper. If you’re not sure why you keep getting flare ups in the same spot, you need to start thinking about your health and hygiene habits. Here’s our breakdown of what your breakouts mean, and how you can get rid of your acne once and for all.

1. If your forehead is breaking out…
You’ve probably noticed that your forehead breaks out whenever you’re stressed out or feeling anxious. This is because stress forces your skin to overproduce oil, which clogs up your pores. Sometimes, stressing out may cause your acne to flare up on your nose too because of your body’s increase in oil production.

How to fix it…
Combat your body’s natural response to stress by applying an over-the-counter cream like benzoyl peroxide or hydrocortisone. This will help regulate your natural oils and also reduce the redness on your face.

2. If your cheeks are breaking out…
Here’s one more thing to add to the long list of why using your phone often is bad for you. Have you ever noticed how greasy or dirty your phone actually is? We’re all so attached to our phones never think about the fact that they are constantly touching our faces and hands. This makes your phone bacteria central.

How to fix it…
Wipe that baby down, girl! Make sure you are constantly wiping your phone with antibacterial wipes, and vow not to let it touch your face too often. Speaking of touching your face, try to keep your hands away unless you wash them first.

3. If your neck or chin is breaking out…
You may be PMSing. When your body is preparing for your period, it tends to overproduce oil (which is why your skin breaks out more often). Your hormones may also be out of whack.

How to fix it…
Be preemptive by applying an over-the-counter cream on the areas you’ve had issues with in the past or your face in general. This will help keep your pimples in check before they happen.

4. If the skin around your mouth is breaking out…
You need to take a look at your diet. What you eat has a major factor on your skin. If you’re constantly eating foods that are high in salt, greasy and acidic, you’re doing your skin a disservice. This is only plugging up your pores and irritating yiur skin.

How to fix it…
Start thinking about the foods you eat and try to tweak your diet. You don’t have to give up all of the foods you love; you just need to be more conscience of what ingredients are in them and how they are affecting your skin.

5. If you’re breaking out above your brows…
If you drink regularly, you can probably blame it on the alcohol. Any foods that contain a high level of trans fat can actually cause you to have more break outs.

How to fix it…
Be mindful of the amount of drinks, types of food that you’re consuming. Try following a healthier diet for at least a week and see if this clears up your problem areas.
