Yup, you heard us right. The sheet mask craze has culminated in the most out-there product you never realized you wanted: A sheet mask for your butt. This beauty trend seems to have been started by none other than Madonna, who let slip to reporters that she uses conventional face mask products on her butt.
How butt masks work (and how they absolutely don’t work)
Mostly thanks to social media, there’s now a pretty wide range of butt sheet mask products out there – and these products are making a lot of claims about what they can do for your derriere. It’s definitely true that the ingredients in any sheet mask can improve your skin’s appearance. But the U.S. beauty industry is out-of-control unregulated, which means there’s nothing to stop beauty brands from making wildly inaccurate (and even impossible) claims about the benefits of their products.
If you’re seeking to improve the appearance of the skin on your butt, a sheet mask can probably accomplish that. Just like conventional sheet masks, a butt sheet mask can contain nourishing ingredients rich in vitamins and minerals in order to soften, clear, and brighten your skin. One reviewer for Mindbodygreen reported that her skin achieved a softer, glowier appearance after a single use of one of Credo’s natural butt sheet masks.
Here are some plausible benefits of butt sheet masks
1. Hydrating dry skin, resulting in a softer, brighter butt. If you’re looking for a butt sheet mask that will achieve this effect, seek a mask with moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera gel and sea buckthorn extract.
2. Exfoliating and resurfacing skin. Whether you have acne scars or dry skin, or you just need a boost of brightness, a resurfacing mask could help to reveal a new, fresher layer of skin underneath the outermost one. Seek a mask with lactic acid or citric acid to achieve this effect.
3. Reducing body acne. If you suffer from body acne, a butt sheet mask with acne-fighting ingredients might be the right solution for you. Look for masks that contain ingredients like tea tree oil, lavender oil, and rosehip oil.
4. Firming and plumping skin. It’s possible that a mask with collagen-boosting ingredients–such as plant extracts that are rich in vitamin A–could also help your skin to renew itself, resulting in firmer, plumper-looking skin.
If a butt sheet mask claims that it can sculpt or contour your butt, you should be extremely wary of these claims. While a mask can help to improve the appearance of your skin’s surface, it can’t substitute for exercise and a healthy diet, and it’s not going to change the structure of your muscles. Butt sheet masks can definitely have a place in your full-body skincare routine, but it’s important to be aware of what they can and can’t do.
Apparently, we’re at a stage in our civilization where “butt-masking” can be considered not only acceptable but a beauty craze. What do you think about the butt-masking trend? Have you ever tried a butt mask, and/or do you have a product you swear by? Let us know in the comments section below.
