After an endless cycle of applying, wiping off and then re-applying your makeup, you’re finally ready for your date night. Looking this good didn’t come easily, so you take a moment as you head out the door to cast a silent prayer that your makeup doesn’t move an inch.
Naturally, once the appetizers roll out and you’re deep in conversation with your date, everything goes wrong. Your lipstick decides to misbehave and stick to everything but your actual lips, you’re slowly sweating out your brow powder and that eye shadow you spent ten minutes artfully blending looks muddy.
Before you panic and smudge your makeup any further, check out these quick fixes that are perfect for whenever you’re in a pinch on date night!
If you’re constantly filling in your eyebrows…
Some of us are not as blessed in the eyebrow department, which means that we hold onto our brow pencils and powders like a lifeline. This makes it ten times more annoying when your nervous sweating kicks in and you have to constantly go to the bathroom and reapply. Smudge-proof your brow by first dipping your makeup brush into baby powder and then gently going over them.
If your faux eyelashes won’t stick…
Let the glue sit on your falsies for about a minute before you apply them. It will start drying out and become stickier. You can also add more glue to the corners of the lashes since they’re usually the hardest spots to keep in place.
If your lipstick smudges…
To keep your lipstick from budging for the whole date night, outline the outside of your lips with your favorite concealer. Once you’re done, pop your index finger into your mouth and then take it out to avoid getting lipstick on your teeth. Don’t forget to blot your lips so your lipstick doesn’t kiss-off at the end of the night (wink).
If your foundation rubs off…
Primer is the holy grail of the makeup world. Applying primer before you put on your foundation will make it stay put and last longer. For extra security, you can also use a setting powder to keep it in place after you’ve applied foundation.
If your mascara is streaking…
You and your date hit it off right away and have been talking for hours. He has you laughing so hard that you’re in tears. Normally, that’d be a good thing if your mascara weren’t still wet. Dip a Q-tip in eye makeup remover and slowly rub it on the streak lines. If you don’t have a Q-tip handy, put a few drops of the makeup remover on a napkin. Next, gently pat your cheek with the corner of the napkin.
If your eyeshadow starts melting off…
Applying primer first can be a date night game-changer. It keeps your eyeshadow in place and makes each individual color of your eye shadow blend stand out.
If you smudge your eyeliner…
First, gently dab the excess liner with a Q-tip or napkin. Next, go over your liner with eyeshadow in a similar shade. This will act like an impromptu setting powder.
If your skin is oily…
After you rinse your face, apply your usual moisturizer. Give it a few minutes to sink in before blotting your face with a napkin. This will leave your skin feeling smooth without the added oiliness.
