DIY beauty routine

The sheer amount of ways that using lemon benefits your skin, beauty and health will surprise you. Chances are that you already use it in your food or when you’re trying to stay hydrated. This super fruit contains many properties that work together to improve your lifestyle such as such as vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc, iron, calcium and potassium. The best part is that it is inexpensive and is already in your fridge! Here’s how you can add lemons to your DIY beauty routine.

DIY Beauty routine featuring lemon

Soothing Facial Toner

Making a toner is the first stop of any DIY beauty routine. If your skin is prone to breakouts and you often have trouble finding a product that works consistently, a lemon juice toner may do the trick. The antibacterial properties found in lemons will combat bacteria trapped under your skin. Mix two to three tablespoons of lemon juice with cold water. Lightly apply the diluted solution to any problem areas. This will also tighten your pores, leaving your skin feeling smooth and fresh.

Organic Hair Removal

Remove hair the natural way by creating a honey and lemon sugar wax. Boil one tablespoon of lemon juice with 1/4 cup of honey in a saucepan. Let it cool down for a few minutes. Next, apply the wax to any unwanted hair and wait about 10 to 15 minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth. Splash your face with warm water to get rid of any leftover wax. You can also create an organic hair removal paste using oatmeal.

Exfoliating Sugar Body Scrub

Sugar scrubs are gentle on your skin and clear your pores; they are actually healthier for your skin than their salt counterpart. Keep your skin feeling hydrated and soft by making your own lemon infused sugar scrub. Carefully melt your favorite essential oil (I use coconut or almond oil) and mix it with sugar. Next, blend in one to two tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply as desired and get ready for your skin to look years younger.

Blemish Busting Face Mask

Combine oatmeal, lemon juice and honey in a blender for a simple but effective face mask that will get rid of dark spots and lighten old acne scars. For better results, leave the mask on for about 10 minutes (or until it hardens slightly) before you rinse it off.

Natural Highlights

Avoid the harmful effects of bleach and lighten your hair naturally. If you already have lighter hair, the best way to get subtle highlights is with a little lemon juice and sunshine. That’s it! The heat from the sun will activate the lemon juice and gently bleach your hair. Moisturize your hair with a spray bottle containing fresh lemon juice and a teaspoon of your favorite essential oil.

Drinking Lemon Water for Hair Growth

Drinking lemon water is not just good for your skin and health, it also has many benefits for your hair. It strengthens your hair follicles, stimulates hair growth and reduces dandruff. Lemon water is also great for oily hair because it unclogs blocked hair follicles. Tackle beauty from the inside!
