We love beauty products and definitely swear by them, but we also know that the secret to long-lasting beauty comes from what we put on our plates. While using your diet to heal your skin woes may require more patience and dedication, this method is effective. Fill your plate with these beauty foods to prevent premature aging and have a long-lasting radiant glow!
Hydrating Foods
If you want a youthful glow, then in addition to drinking tons of water all day every day, stock up on hydrating foods. Think—cucumber, melons, strawberries, celery, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and even cauliflower. In general, if you make sure to have 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, then you’ll be getting plenty of water. Why do we need so much water for anti-aging? Water will make you feel fuller which helps combat cravings of unhealthy foods that can wreck your skin. Consuming plenty of water will also prevent acne flare-ups.
Superfoods
You may be thinking we’re going to ask you to get expensive superfoods like açaí, maca powder, or goji berries, but superfoods don’t have to be expensive and the best ones are the cheapest! Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is incredibly beneficial to your skin when it comes to anti-aging and clearing blemishes. Add ACV to your salad dressings and to your smoothies. If you have enough fruit and greens in your smoothies you won’t even taste the vinegar. Ground flax seed is full of essential fatty acids which are crucial for skin health. Add those to your smoothie as well to get your omega-3s. Finally, add ground turmeric and ginger to anything you can. These are nature’s best when it comes to healing not only your skin but also your overall health. Plop some turmeric and ginger root into your smoothies, or use them in curries and soups.
Berries
Berries are full of antioxidants, which help combat the damage done by UV rays. Berries are also loaded with vitamin C to help with collagen production. Berries are so easy to add to your daily diet. Simply add them to your breakfast, salads, or have them for snacks.
Probiotics
While you can take a probiotic supplement to ensure that you are getting plenty of probiotics, you can also eat fermented foods like kimchi, kefir, kombucha or sauerkraut for probiotics. Why do we need probiotics to help with anti-aging? Probiotics will help you maintain clear and youthful skin because they maintain a healthy gut balance in your microbiome. A healthy microbiome prevents leaky gut, which can cause skin inflammation and eczema. In addition to eating probiotic foods or taking a probiotic supplement, you also want to eat plenty of prebiotics from plant fiber. Foods with lots of prebiotics include artichokes, onions, garlic, berries, asparagus, and so many more!
Low Histamine Foods
Histamines are natural substances produced by the body, and they are present in many foods. Histamines cause reactions in the body like hives, flushing, rashes, and itching, and they are released during stress and when you have allergies. If you want clear, youthful skin, try avoiding foods with histamines for a few weeks to see if your skin irritation is resolved. Foods with histamines include citrus, alcohol, aged foods, and smoked foods.
