When it was warmer out, you spent most of your time at the beach or out in the sun (hello gorgeous tan!). Even though it seemed like a really good idea at the time, your skin is paying for it now. Our everyday routines have  a major impact on our skin.

There are so many ways that we age ourselves without knowing. We know that smoking is one of the biggest causes for premature wrinkles, but there are other factors that aren’t as obvious. Luckily, it is still possible to rejuvenate your skin and stop yourself from aging poorly. Avoid these habits and replace them with these anti aging routines instead.

1. Drinking from a straw
I am the biggest germophobe in the world. The idea of drinking directly from a can or bottle freaks me out. Here’s the problem. Sipping from a straw causes tiny, hard-to-get-rid-of wrinkles to form around your mouth.

How to fix it…
If you’re a germophobe like me, wash the top of your bottle or can before drinking directly from it. You can also wash it and then pour it into a glass.

2. Slouching or having really bad posture
Standing up straight isn’t always easy, especially when your body has gotten used to sitting or standing the same way for years. Constantly slouching will leave your muscles feeling sore and tired, and may eventually lead to permanent damage.

How to fix it…
There are a few simple exercises that you can practice doing everyday to correct your posture. For example, if you work in an office and constantly find yourself hunched over a computer screen, try this exercise. Place your feet about shoulder width apart. Now, picture a balloon string gently pulling your head up until your back is straight. That’s it! Dedicate five minutes to this exercise and you will notice major results!

3. You only wear sunscreen when the sun is out…
This is one of the biggest factors that affects our skin. We’ve all made this mistake before. It doesn’t have to be scorching hot outside for the sun’s harmful rays to be out in full effect.

How to fix it…
You must apply sunscreen every time you leave your house, even if you feel like you don’t need it. You’ll thank yourself later.

4. Your diet is packed with sugar.
We know. Cutting sugar from your diet is easier said than done but science doesn’t lie. Eating and drinking too much sugar directly affects your health on the inside and outside.

How to fix it…
Cutting sugar out completely is unrealistic. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself once in awhile. Instead, try to decrease your sugar intake gradually.

5. You procrastinate to the point of being completely stressed out.
You leave things until the very last minute. Normally, you’re a pro at procrastinating and work well under pressure. But lately, all of the stress has been really taking a toll on your mental health.

How to fix it…
Girl, it’s time to take a break! The best gift I ever gave myself was a planner and a timer. I dedicate at least 15 minutes a night to my nightly routine. This includes washing my face with my favorite facial cleanser and reading a book or magazine before bed. Because this routine helps me de-stress from my busy day, I commit to doing my work on time so that I can make time for it.
