Making major health changes and committing to being your best self are practices we typically dedicate ourselves to at the beginning of the year, but the spring season is the perfect time to be a healthier person. We’re already decluttering and cleaning our homes, so why not spring clean our bodies too?! Be a healthier person this spring with these healthy living ideas, as well as health tips for your skin and inner beauty.
Here’s how to be a healthier person this spring.
Use that jade roller
A jade roller is a Chinese skincare tool that is known for cooling, tightening, and depuffing your face in just seconds. Maybe skepticism or an already complicated beauty routine has been keeping you from trying the jade roller, but now is the time to pick up this good habit—especially since jade rolling on the regular could remove the need for your complicated skincare regimen. In addition to its beauty benefits, get that jade roller to glam up your vanity or bathroom counter.
Get moving on your lunch break
Instead of sitting down and eating a sad desk lunch while you grind away, why not head outside for some vitamin D and movement? Even if you don’t use your entire lunch break to walk, give yourself at least 10 minutes to stroll. A recent study showed that exercise doesn’t have to be extensive to be beneficial. Even taking three 10-minute walks a day can extend your lifespan!
Scrape your tongue
While it may sound gross, there are so many benefits to tongue scraping. Tongue scraping can get rid of your bad breath in ways that brushing your teeth simply can’t. Your tongue scraper will rid the bacteria on the back of the tongue that causes bad breath. After tongue scraping you’ll also be able to better taste and digest your food with all of that gunk off your tongue. Did you know the tongue is the first line of defense in your immune system? Tongue scraping helps prevent toxins from being reabsorbed into your body.
Add collagen into your routine
We recently discussed how collagen supplements can revolutionize your skin. Among the many benefits of taking collagen, some of the most notable included anti-aging, skin hydration, boost in skin elasticity, stronger nails, brighter skin, soft and luxurious hair, and even less joint pain. So, what are you waiting for?! Work collagen into your daily routine.
Invest in a standing desk
By now you’ve heard the phrase sitting is killing you. While this may sound dramatic, sitting all day is definitely no good. Now is a great time to try a standing desk to be healthier overall. Sitting compresses the lower back and shortens your hip flexors. As a result, you’ll end up with bad posture, and your digestion and energy will be negatively affected. If you don’t think you can manage standing all day, set a timer and stand every 90 minutes.
Rest up
Feeling fatigued? If you’ve been exhausted for the past few months, you could be on track to get chronic fatigue. Thankfully, one long night of restful sleep could have you feeling back to normal. For others, a total sleep reset is required. Make sure you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night, avoid eating 2-3 hours before going to bed, and eliminate any light, electronics, and other distractions from your bedroom.
Cook with the season
Spring is finally here, so we can stop eating squash and hearty soups. Lighten up your plate with seasonal salads and green juices. Head to your local farmers market to learn what foods are in season in your region. Fill your kitchen with a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables and we promise, this is the only spring detox you’ll need.
Meditate already!
Already quit your new year’s resolution to meditate daily? Don’t sweat it. Spring is the perfect time to set new intentions for healthier living. Meditate at least 5 minutes and day and work your way up to longer practices. Heading into the new season with a more relaxed, stress-free mind will help you with any changes this new season will bring.
