Do people really put honey on face? Honey has been in existence since the beginning of time. It is known for centuries as a topical remedy to treat infections so it is not surprising to know that honey is effective in treating acne as well. Honey is a natural and chemical-free solution used in the pharmaceutical industry for treating acne. Many medications list honey as the main ingredient. However, not all honey is created the same.

Do you know that nearly every person has suffered from facial acne at least once in their lifetime? The major cause of acne is due to excess production of oil glands which is located at the base of the hair follicles. Bacterial growth accumulates, clogging the pores and causing inflammation. Additional contributing factors include hygiene, improper diet or hormonal changes.

Clearing these blockages and the inflammation should logically help eliminate acne symptoms. This is where honey comes into play. The antimicrobial properties in honey not only clear facial pores but also help to remove the bacteria, thus reducing the signs of acne. The acid properties of honey promote tissue healing, regulating the skin’s normal PH level. This is a great reason for putting honey on face.

Manuka honey is obtained from bees that produce it using the nectar from the Manuka flower bushes that are native to New Zealand. This honey is high on the chart for its effectiveness in combating acne. Organic raw honey is equally as effective. By regularly using honey as a treatment for acne, you can cure it along with preventing scarring. Higher qualities of honey may come with a higher price tag than the bear bottle honey, but you will not have to shell out cash on multiple products for treating acne that may cost more.

Honey can be used as either a mask or scrub. It can be taken internally to help remove the acne. You can use either method you prefer. Always wash the area to be treated with warm water first to open the pores.

Honey on Face Mask

It’s easy to make a honey on face mask. Take a cotton ball and apply a small amount of honey onto it. Apply the honey to the inflamed area and allow it to set for 30 minutes or overnight. Cover the area with a bandage. Rinse the area with warm water and pat dry. You can do this twice a week if you have mild acne. If the acne is severe, do this every day.

To take internally; in a glass, mix one tablespoon of honey and two teaspoons of lemon juice into warm water. This mixture will detoxify and clear the inflammation from the inside.

Combine Honey and Cinnamon into a Mask

Next, try a honey on face mask with cinnamon. Cinnamaldehyde, the main ingredient in cinnamon, provides anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties which help to treat acne. Into a glass, combine one teaspoon of cinnamon to two tablespoons of honey. Apply the mask on the inflamed area. Allow it to set for 30 minutes or overnight by covering it with a bandage. Rinse the area with warm water and pat dry. Repeat on a regular basis for best results.

Honey-Olive Oil to Reduce Remaining Acne Scars

A honey on face mask with olive oil is also awesome. There can remain dark spots on the face once the acne has cleared. These are dead cells that can slowly fade by combining an equal two tablespoons of honey and olive oil. Apply mixture to the inflamed area and allow it to set for 30 minutes or overnight by covering it with a bandage. Place a hot washcloth over the area until the washcloth cools down. Wipe off the remaining oil. Repeat on a regular basis for best results.
