Dry shampoo is a relatively new product on the market. It wasn’t the trend 10 years ago, but now it is seen everywhere, and everyone seems to own a bottle. And no wonder, the product saves you during those times when your hair is a little bit greasy and there is no time to wash and dry it. You just spray some dry shampoo on and you are ready to go. But, how does dry shampoo work?
We think that it is important to note that dry shampoo doesn’t really clean the hair. It does give you the appearance of clean hair. How does dry shampoo work? Read on to find out!
What is dry shampoo?
Dry shampoo is basically a powder or a spray that covers the roots of the hair and absorbs the oil, leaving the hair looking and smelling fresh. There are many brands that make dry shampoo, and there are also many DIY recipes of making it at home. Some people even just use baby powder, which has almost the same effect on the hair. This product allows you to put off washing your hair for another day, saves your hair after a day in the gym, or when you have a full day of work and errands ahead and cannot waste time and effort in washing and styling your hair.
How does dry shampoo work?
Dry shampoo disperses a powder on the hair, which absorbs natural oils and oils contained in styling products into it. Dry shampoo can be easily brushed off afterwards, but it will not rid you of all the actual dirt on the hair. The hair will look clean, but it will not feel clean. If the need arises to use dry shampoo, you should follow it with regular shampooing and rinsing a few hours later at the end of the day.
To make a homemade dry shampoo, you can use cornstarch, oats, baby powder, and sometimes clay.
The problem with most dry shampoos, homemade and store-bought, is that only a few of them account for dark hair. Using a dry shampoo can leave white residue on dark hair and that is not a cute look. Make sure that after using dry shampoo that you brush off all of the excess powder off your hair.
How to use it
Hold the canister away from your face. Spray only the oily areas and work the product into your hair for better distribution and absorption. Wait for a couple of minutes for it to soak up all of the excess oils and brush it off.
If you know in advance that your hair will be dirty the next day and have no intention of cleaning it, use dry shampoo overnight and brush off the excess in the morning. Not only will you have cleaner looking hair but it will also be easier to work with.
How does dry shampoo work for fine hair?
Even when your hair is fine, there are still reasons to invest in dry shampoo. Dry shampoo adds texture and volume to fine hair. It is easier to style the hair that has been sprayed with dry shampoo. It is also perfect for creating those messy hairstyles!
