How to get rid of a headache

There are different recommendations for how to get rid of a headache. Here are the best tips for how to get rid of a headache.

1. Drink water

One of the most common causes of headaches is dehydration. When you begin to notice the first discomfort, be sure to drink a couple of glasses of water. Also, remember that by eating fresh fruits and vegetables you can introduce good amounts of water into your body. Water with lemon or cucumber is another healthy option. Avoid “junk” beverages. If the headache has a hangover origin, you can drink isotonic drinks that are excellent for rehydration.

2. Massage the head

Simply make light pressure on your head with your fingertips and draw circles. Another option is to use two tennis balls in a sock or something similar. Lie on your back and massage your scalp, neck, temples, nostrils, the bridge of the nose, and ear lobes. Massaging these areas improves blood circulation and lowers stress. Place the balls below the base of the skull (occipital bone) and relax. Sometimes, it may not be very comfortable, especially at first. But, as time goes by it will bring a lot of relief. This home remedy is especially effective for how to get rid of a headache caused by sinusitis.

3. Cold Compress

Applying a cold compress is another useful trick for how to get rid of a headache. Rest comfortably in your bed and apply a cold ice pack in the areas that bother you most for a few minutes. Always protect the ice pack with a light cloth so that it does not cause discomfort on your skin.

4. Rest and relaxation

A very common cause of a headache is stress, worry, and lack of sleep. Your body is telling you that it is time to relax. Lie down comfortably, relax, or even get a nap if you need to.

5. Aromatherapy

We can find essential oils that are highly effective in combating a headache. The most used are Lavender, Marjoram, Eucalyptus, or Chamomile. Here is a massage mixture that is useful: 5 drops of rosemary, five drops of nutmeg, five drops of lavender and base oil. Essential oils can be used in burner, in a bath, inhaled, or diluted with base oil (sweet almonds, olive, etc.) for massage. Our favorites can be found here.

6. Sleep well

Sleeping well is the best way to rest the body. A well-insulated room without noises, a comfortable bed, and an adequate position on the mattress will help to relax your muscles, and will make you feel better the next day. Too much sleep can also cause headaches, however.

7. Adopt a new attitude towards life:

People who are too demanding often have more headaches. Sometimes it is necessary to be more reflective and not be carried away by the frenetic pace of life so that your body is not stressed and experiencing repeated headaches.

8. Relaxation (again):

Many headaches are caused by eye strain. Spending a long time in front of the computer, reading, and performing tasks with a lot of visual concentration can be what causes discomfort.
