Summertime is all about discovering new ways to keep your skin healthy throughout the different weather conditions. One of my favorite beauty tricks of the seasons is to test natural ingredients for both skin and hair. Little did I know that there would be an ingredient right in front of me that could be used in so many ways.
Turmeric has been used in the Indian subcontinent for years as an antiseptic as well as an easy fix to balance the coloring in your face. Now, it’s uses have expanded to also involve antioxidant agents. Turmeric contains so many key vitamins that assist in the anti-aging process, including the production of collagen. Here are some new hacks to try out involving turmeric!
Turmeric tea
The curcumin in turmeric is a natural antioxidant that produces serotonin and dopamine, which can help you sleep better, as well as feel your best! Try out some of the recipes found here.
Anti-aging
As an exfoliant, turmeric is a wonderful ingredient that can be mixed in a mask to prevent wrinkles. Mix a little turmeric powder into any DIY face mask to add some exfoliation naturally. Also, check out this video to make your own turmeric face mask.
Acne treatment
When combined with a more consistent oil such as olive oil or coconut oil, turmeric oil can be applied as an acne treatment. Mix up a little concoction and keep it in a small jar to bring out whenever you have an annoying pimple ruining your day. Apply the mixture overnight and watch your pimple shrink.
Dental care
Turmeric can not only whiten teeth, but it can also be an antibacterial agent that would prevent further decay. Make your own turmeric toothpaste by combining 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a few drops of an essential oil (like peppermint or clove) to make the taste a bit better and add even more helpful properties.
Hair care
Turmeric oil can be applied to hair when mixed with either coconut oil or your usual hair oil to prevent dandruff or be used as an anti-fungal treatment.
And no, although turmeric might have a bright yellow color, it most certainly will not stain your hair, face, or teeth. All it takes is a thorough rinse following use, and you will receive all of the benefits!
When you’re young, you have all of the time in the world to experiment with different beauty ingredients to eventually find what works best for you, and sometimes you’ll be absolutely blown away with what ingredients you will discover in your kitchen for your specific routine.
