What’s up ladies. Today I come to you with another morning routine, which happens to be my favorite to both read and write. Why? Because they’re simple and actually helpful.
I don’t know about you, but I love having glowy skin. The level of dew when my skin glows so hard it almost looks like I’m sweating is basically what I strive for on a daily basis. Okay, that might be an overstatement, but you know what I mean. There are a few things I do each morning to achieve this natural glow, so I guess I’ll share my secrets.
Cleanse & moisturize
Cleansing your skin in the morning, before applying makeup, is one of the biggest tips I can give you. If you apply makeup onto a dirty face with no prepping, your makeup will not look as good. You might as well be inviting a grease monster into your day to sabotage the makeup you worked so hard on this morning. Cleanse!
Along with cleansing also comes exfoliating. Getting rid of the dead skin on your face will reveal your natural inner glow much more than if you don’t. And, it’ll make your makeup go on much more smoothly. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference.
Next comes moisturizing. Your skin type will determine which kind of moisturizer will work best for you, so know your skin. If you have extremely oily skin, a light gel-like lotion won’t clog your pores and make your face even oilier. But if you have dry skin like me, you can get away with a thicker moisturizer to keep your face hydrated all day. You probably know your skin better than I do, so try out a few different moisturizers to see what you like best.
Drink water
I know everyone is constantly telling you to drink more and more water, but they’re right. The FIRST thing you do in the morning should be chugging a huge glass of ice water. Not only will it help cleanse out your digestive system and flush toxins out of your body, if you do it every day, your skin will show it. When water is the first thing to hit your stomach in the morning, it energizes you and gets your body ready for the day. I try to do this every day and it never fails to make me feel better about the fact that I had to get out of bed *eye roll*.
Use a BB cream/tinted moisturizer
BB creams, tinted moisturizers and other lighter options opposed to foundation are typically a bit more glowy. Use a buffing foundation brush to get the most coverage you can, then use a damp beauty sponge all over to create the perfect pore-less finish. My personal favorite is the Rimmel BB Cream because it makes your face GLOW but it also has decent coverage. Seriously, I swear by this stuff.
Use a natural highlighter
~Natural~ is the key word here. There are so many highlighters out there that will give you a beautiful metallic finish, but that doesn’t always work for everyday. Choose a highlighter that gives a natural sheen, rather than a “wet” look.
One of my favorites is the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. This one gives you the most natural glow and it’s especially beautiful on olive skin tones. And it’s cheap. But if you’re willing to splurge a bit, I would highly recommend the Hourglass Ambient Strobing Powder, it gives a similar glow that is basically magic.
Do you have something on your mind beauty and lifestyle related? Ask me in the comments, and I’ll have an answer for you next week in my column! Don’t be shy, I’m up for the challenge.
Xoxo –
