This week, the inevitable has happened. School has started, and I am once again swamped with assignments, unavoidable responsibilities and stress. College is fun, right? Whether you’re still in school like me or out in the real world with a big girl job, you know how stressful everything seems to get towards the end of the summer. Wait, you mean I can’t lay out and work on my tan all day anymore? Ugh, why can’t I be 16 years old again?

The first week of school is always hectic for me. Getting all my textbooks, finding my classes, going grocery shopping and figuring out how to budget my time for the semester all has me exhausted by the end of each day. I can’t imagine how stressful working a 9-5 job every day will be. But when I think about it, why can’t we look cute while getting sh*t done?

I am a firm believer in the phrase “look good, feel good.” I promise I don’t mean this in a vain way. But you’re a liar if you say a little lipstick and a cute outfit doesn’t pick your spirits up a bit. Yes, most of the time I’m that girl in class with makeup and a ~cute and sporty~ outfit on. Here’s why: IT MAKES ME FEEL AWESOME. When I do myself up a little in the morning, it makes me feel confident and ready to attack the day.

When dealing with the first week of school or a stressful time at work, take a deep breath and do something for yourself. Wear some lipstick to class. Put on those cute yoga pants that show off your butt (why not?). Pamper yourself with a face mask and some reality tv tonight. Anything that will help you melt the stress and make you feel more confident, do it.

Included in those things that could make your week better: having a little fun! The first week back at school is always a blast because you get to see everyone you’ve missed all summer. Why not debut your cutest outfit during a night out? If you’re struggling with outfit ideas, here are a few things I’ve been loving to incorporate into my wardrobe to spice things up a bit.

Chokers are back, people. Not only are they cute and simple, they change the look of your entire outfit. You can go from sweet and girly to edgy and sexy with one tiny piece of jewelry. I’m obsessed, and I can’t stop buying them. It’s a problem.

Off the shoulder tops are one of my new favorite things. They show off your tan and add just the right amount of flowy movement without swallowing you up. Wear them with shorts, jeans, skirts and pretty much anything else your heart desires.

Cat eye sunglasses make you sassy without having to try! Sunglasses are one of my favorite ways to add a little confidence and boost my outfit to look like I’m a famous model or something (I wish). Throw these on while going to class and trust me, you’ll look and feel amazing.

Okay, now I totally understand if just a few outfit ideas won’t reverse the exhaustion you’re feeling right now. Honestly, I feel the same and coffee and lipstick can’t do much to help me at this point. What you need is rest. Your friends are probably begging you to go out and do things, when in reality you need some time to yourself. There is nothing wrong with a night in to reset.

One thing I love to do is tidy up my room a bit, then pick a movie to watch on Netflix. This sounds so lame and simple, but it seriously does wonders for my sanity. When my room is at least somewhat organized and clean, I feel so much more calm and relaxed. Lighting candles and setting the mood for date night with yourself brings the relaxation to a whole new level. If you’re up for it, give yourself a pedicure and do a face mask while you watch your favorite romantic comedy. Treat yo’self.

I know it’s easy to get caught up in the pressure to get everything done and be successful, whether it’s in school or at work. But remember this: everyone goes through this. Literally everyone. You are not the first person on this earth to feel stressed and anxious during a busy time in your life. Let off some steam in whatever way helps you, but remember too that it’s normal to feel this way. You’ve got this.
