Alright, let’s be honest. We all know the feeling of waking up at the beginning of the week after a long weekend of drinking. You feel sluggish, tired, like you gained 10 pounds, and trust me the bags under your eyes are not designer. Whether we like it or not, alcohol really takes a toll on our bodies and energy levels. Trust me, I’m in college, I get it.
No matter how much wine (or tequila) you indulged in last weekend, you can come back and make this week your b*tch. Here’s what I do to bounce back (those of you who get this Big Sean reference, you win) after a weekend of drinking.
Drink lemon water
Lemon water has so many benefits. It detoxifies your entire body, aides in digestion and countless other things. Alcohol is basically poison you are voluntarily putting into your body, so drinking lemon water will really help get those toxins out faster, as well as raise your energy levels. I like to wake up in the morning and chug a glass of ice cold lemon water, and boy does it make a difference. Plus, it’s delicious.
Hydrate your skin
Once again, alcohol is poison (we love it though). Your skin is one organ that is stressed by large amounts of it, so give it a little attention after a weekend of drinking. Use a hydrating face mask, thick nighttime moisturizer, and make sure you slather on the under eye cream. Dull and tired skin won’t stand a chance if you nurse it back to health properly.
This includes the skin on your body, too. Exfoliating with a body scrub or loofah then following up with a body butter will overall make you feel like a brand new woman with new skin.
Watch what you eat
Hungover Lauren loves greasy fast food. While it might make me feel better for 2 hours after eating it, it doesn’t actually do me any favors long after that. My advice: have ONE greasy meal after your weekend, but after that try to eat as healthy as possible. You don’t have to do some crazy diet, but feeding your body what it truly needs will help you physically feel better more than anything else. Nutrient packed smoothies, pasta with veggies, and loaded salads are some of my go-to’s. Just try to eat mostly healthy, and you’ll be good.
Sweat it out
Sweating is an amazing way to release toxins from your body. Get yourself to the gym for these 3 days, and your body will feel rejuvenated. With the water and healthy(ish) food you’re putting into it, your body will feel better I promise. Bonus: sit in the sauna for about 10 minutes to sweat a little extra.
Get good sleep
Burning the candle from both ends will only make everything worse. I’m guessing you didn’t get a lot of sleep this past weekend, so now is the time to catch up. Set an alarm on your phone telling you to go to bed at a certain time, and stick to it. Good sleep will do you wonders.
Do you have something on your mind beauty and lifestyle related? Ask me in the comments, and I’ll have an answer for you next week in my column! Don’t be shy, I’m up for the challenge.
Xoxo –
Lauren
