Hey everyone! My name is Lauren, and I’m a contributor here at Daily Beauty Hack. Since you’re here, you probably have an obsession with everything hair, makeup and beauty like I do. It’s honestly a serious problem (or is it?). Each week, I’m here to bring you advice/philosophy/tips/my thoughts on everything from lipsticks to relationships. This lifestyle and beauty column is the place to go whether you’re struggling with whatever hard thing life is throwing at you, or if you’re simply trying to figure out what outfit you’re wearing this weekend. Girl, trust me I’ve got you. As young women, we need to stick together and have each other’s back during this crazy journey we call life.
With that being said, today we’re talking about loving yourself. What does that even mean? Eating chocolate and watching Netflix until you pass out? Splurging on that dress you’ve been eyeing for two weeks now? Well in my opinion, it’s all of that plus much more. Loving yourself isn’t always the easiest thing to do, especially when it feels like life is against you all at once. Trust me, I know. But it’s time to stop making excuses. You have an idea of how you want your life to be in your mind, so make it all of that and more. You are the only person who has complete control over your life, so you’re the only one who can make it amazing. All of this starts slowly, and I have a few things that will help you begin loving yourself more easily.
Stop comparing
We all do it. Scrolling through Instagram and seeing those beautiful models sometimes makes you feel a little insecure, because who really looks like that? No one, that’s who. You don’t have to be pretty like her, because you’re pretty like you. I can’t stress enough the importance of maintaining the mindset that you are GOOD ENOUGH. Just because someone else looks good, doesn’t mean you don’t! So she looks good in pink lipstick, but you look good in red. You are two different people who look beautiful in their own different way. Beauty comes in so many different forms, as cheesy as it may sound.
Next time you feel that subtle bite of jealousy or lack of confidence, try this. Take some bright lipstick and write a sweet message to yourself on your bathroom mirror. You’ve probably seen this before, but I’m serious, try it. You’ll be amazed at how it makes you feel first thing in the morning, and then how it carries on throughout the day. Write something like “You’re beautiful” or “I love you” to compliment yourself on the daily.
Treat yo’self
Treating yo’self and splurging on something is not a guilty pleasure, it’s essential for your mental health. Whether it’s once a month, once a week or once a day, do something that your inner self truly wants. This comes in so many forms and it’s totally personal. Stay in for a night alone and take a bubble bath, buy that eyeshadow palette, eat that ice cream, go on that date, buy yourself flowers or take that trip you’ve been wanting to take. Listen to yourself. Don’t go crazy and drain your bank account (we’ve all done it, oops), but let yourself live a little in order to create happiness regularly. For me, it’s a new pair of sunglasses. They make me feel like a bada** and so much more confident. It’s as simple as that.
Put on some lipstick and pull yourself together
Yes, actually put on some lipstick and pull yourself together. Have you ever assessed your mood before and after applying lipstick? For me, it’s an instant game changer on how my whole day will go. Going to the grocery store? Put on some lipstick. Staying home all day? Put on some lipstick. Going on a date? Put on some lipstick. Watching Netflix? Put on some lipstick. The confidence boost throughout the day is so simple yet incredible. Whether it’s a dark red or a simple nude, lipstick has become one of my best friends. It’s just always there for me. What’s so bad about making yourself feel beautiful?
Have some fun
Your schedule is crazy and you always feel like you’re swimming in responsibilities and stress. That feeling comes with school, work and any other obligation you’ve somehow gotten yourself into. While staying on track and focused is important, sometimes you need to let loose. Go out with your friends on a Tuesday night. Buy yourself a bottle of nice wine. Splurge on a delicious breakfast at your favorite diner. Giving into FOMO (fear of missing out) is needed every once in a while! Whatever work needs to be done can wait until tomorrow, you need some time for yourself tonight.
What do you do daily to love yourself? I hope you’ve found a few new ideas about taking some time for yourself and making your life amazing again. No matter what you’re going through, grab some lipstick and take the initiative to change your mindset. YOU are in control, and you have more potential than you know to create total bliss all around you and start loving yourself more easily. Maybe you’ll inspire someone else to do the same.
Do you have something on your mind beauty and lifestyle related? Ask me in the comments, and I’ll have an answer for you next week in my column! Don’t be shy, I’m up for the challenge.
Xoxo –
Lauren
