For all you lovely ladies out there who have hooded eyes—have no fear! We have the perfect makeup tips to help you accentuate your eye shape. First of all, a hooded eye shape is one where the skin of your eye covers part of your eyelid. When applying makeup, this can cause unwanted blending of eye shadows, and any fancy liner that you apply. Using makeup to complement your hooded eyes can make them look more awake and less droopy. Magic.
Eyeshadow placement
The first step is to decide where you want your crease to be. When applying your transition color to the crease, apply it while your eyes are open and slightly above your natural crease. Use a windshield wiping motion to sweep the color across the area and make sure to blend it well.
Next, if you’re going for an everyday look, apply a bright shimmery lid color making sure to keep it only on the lid. Since you put the transition color above your natural crease, this will help to avoid unwanted blending of the two colors together. Next, smudge a bit of eyeliner or a dark eye shadow on the outer corner of your top lash line. Keeping it towards the outer edge will really open up your eyes and make them look more wide and awake.
If you’re going for more of a smoky nighttime look, start by putting a dark matte color in a “dome” shape on your lid. Make sure the edges don’t go too far towards your inner corner and outer corner because this will make your eyes look smaller. Blending here is key! Smooth out the edges so there are no harsh lines and the color fades into the upper crease. Play up the look by adding a pop of color to the bottom lash line, add some eyeliner and mascara, and you’re ready for a night out!
Eyeliner placement
When it comes to eyeliner on hooded eyes, try to keep it as close to the lash line as possible. Look at yourself straight on in the mirror and see how much lid space you have to work with. Apply your eyeliner so that the hood of your eye covers none of it. This will make the entire look appear more clean and precise, also opening up your eyes making them look bigger and brighter.
Having hooded eyes may cause your makeup routine to take a little longer than usual, but if you follow these steps there is no way you can fail!
