Ahhh…awards season. The first few months of each year means that we get to sit in front of the TV and admire all of the hard work that has been done by our favorite musicians, actors, and creative minds. Our favorite part of awards season is getting to see the beauty and fashion choices that each star makes. It takes a team to create each red carpet look—from the glam squad that handles hair and makeup to the designers that create dreamy dresses. The stars beautifully and gracefully wear each look that took hours upon hours to prepare. After all of this work is done and the stars arrive on the red carpet, we sit at home and gawk at their utter perfection. Read below to see some of our favorite Academy Awards fashion looks through the years.
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada, 2014
One of our favorite Academy Awards fashion looks ever is this blue Prada gown that Lupita Nyong’o wore at the 2014 Academy Awards. The deep ‘V’ neck and the flowing train made this look extra elegant. The powder blue hue looks striking on the red carpet and we are total fangirls for this look.
Jessica Alba in Marchesa, 2008
We assume that it can’t be easy to dress a baby bump for the red carpet, but Jessica Alba made it look effortless. We really like this Marchesa gown she wore in 2008 that featured a flowing strapless design. Our favorite part is the feather detailing at the top—beautiful!
Charlize Theron in Gucci, 2004
Charlize Theron is a classic beauty and anything she wears looks amazing. This Gucci gown that she wore at the 2004 Oscars really stood out to us, though. The backless design and the beaded detailing elevated her normally chic appearance to goddess status. This gown is a shining example of the excitement that awards season brings.
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell, 2016
Lady Gaga is known for her musical talent and bold fashion statements. It’s no surprise that when she attended the 2016 Academy Awards, she chose to wear a bold new look. Brandon Maxwell designed this ensemble that is actually a jumpsuit. Although it is typically assumed that women at the Oscars wear dresses, we think she pulls this non-traditional look off so well. Brandon Maxwell is a new designer that has worked as Lady Gaga’s fashion director. She decided to share the spotlight and showcase his work on her big night.
Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture, 2016
Another recent look that we love is Jennifer Lawrence at last year’s Academy Awards show in Christian Dior Haute Couture. The sheer black lace ensemble hugged her curves beautifully and was ultra-feminine. Her sleek blonde hair and black nails added to her polished look. Although it can be hard to pull off a sheer look like this, we think she looks amazing.
