As a health coach I always say, “you can eat the healthiest diet, but if you don’t get enough sleep, have negative relationships, and cultivate a lot of stress, then you’re really not healthy at all!” The same goes for beauty. You can use all the right creams and serums and wash your face daily, but if you’re not sleeping an average of 7-8 hours a night, you’re super stressed out, and you lay in bed with your cellphone in your face, then you’re not going to get the skincare results you want. True beauty starts within, and that means taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical health every night in order to enhance natural beauty. Here is the perfect nighttime routine to enhance natural beauty.
Take a detoxifying bath
A weekly detox bath will help your body clean out the lymphatic system and cleanse the liver, gallbladder, skin, and digestive system. For a detox bath, include bentonite clay and Epsom salts to help draw toxins out of the body. Epsom salts are a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Magnesium regulates the activity of enzymes which reduces inflammation and helps muscle and nerve function. Sulfates can help ease migraines, but they primarily improve absorption of nutrients and flush out toxins. Also include real salt and charcoal, which will draw minerals into the cells. Charcoal also helps detox the body of heavy metals, reduces intestinal gas and bloating, lowers cholesterol levels, heals hangovers, and treats bile flow problems. Mix together 2 cups Epsom salts, 1 cup bentonite clay, 1 tablespoon real salt, and 1/2 teaspoon activated charcoal. You can always break open capsules for the charcoal.
Take your evening skincare routine up a notch
If you haven’t already, add jade rolling to your evening skincare routine. Jade rolling is a Chinese skincare tool that is known for cooling, tightening, and depuffing your face in just seconds. Consistent jade rolling is a natural method for getting your face to optimal health. Besides, jade rollers are beautiful to add to your countertop or vanity.
Suffering from dry, flaky skin and wondering why your moisturizer isn’t working? Well then, you need facial oil. Facial oil can be mixed into your current moisturizer for added moisturizing and hydrating benefits, or you can apply facial oil to your entire face and put moisturizer on top. After using facial oil your skin will be smoother, hydrated, and you will have a softer complexion.
A few nights a week treat yourself to a face mask. Face masks don’t have to be a lot of work, and you don’t have to DIY. Sheet masks are the perfect solution for adding face masks into your evening routine because they’re easy to apply and feel amazing to wear! Here are our all-time favorite sheet masks.
Roll out your mat for evening yoga
Try a bedtime yoga video on YouTube to relax the body and prepare it for sleep. Focus on breathing deeply and extending your exhale to fully wind down. You can even do this yoga video in the comfort of your own bed!
If you don’t want to watch a video, start by stretching your neck, and then lie down and hug your knees into your chest. Rock side to side and bring your legs to 90-degree angles. Hold your feet and keep rocking side to side. Hug your right knee into the chest and extend the left leg down. Draw the right knee across the body and turn your gaze to the left. Repeat on the other side. Windshield wipe your legs back and forth and then lie with your palms facing up and let your feet fall away from each other. Namastay in bed.
Make your own wellness tea
A soothing way to end the day is to drink some warm wellness tea before bed. There is nothing like tea to get you ready for sleep. Adding ginger to your tea can soothe digestion and boost your immunity. Boil some water on the stove and drop a peeled piece of ginger into the pot—roughly a 1-inch piece. After 10-15 minutes pour the water into a mug and add a splash of lemon juice and honey.
Turn off all technology
The blue light emitted from your laptop, cellphone, and TV can greatly disturb your sleep and your health. Remove all tech from your bedroom and try to avoid technology at least an hour before you go to bed. Cover up any lights in your bedroom so you can sleep in complete darkness. This is the best way to get your beauty sleep.
Go to bed early
Finally, the number one rule for enhancing natural beauty is to get enough sleep. It is easily the most important health tip out there, along with drinking plenty of water. You should aim for 7.5 hours of sleep 5 nights a week. If you skip out on a good night’s rest you will be reaping the consequences for 1-2 weeks after. All the more reason to try and get 7-8 hours of sleep every single night.
