Almost as soon as social media took the world by storm, so did the selfie. It wasn’t long before people were annoyed by the phenomena. However, by following these few simple rules, you can avoid becoming that selfie-queen that nobody wants on their friends list.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Make sure you are taking into consideration where your photo op is taking place. You don’t want to hit the button if you’re in an area that is sad, like a funeral or natural disaster. Also, skip the car selfies if you’re driving. All people see when checking out that picture is how reckless you are.
Choose a Flattering Angle
Just because you think you have found your perfect angle, doesn’t mean you have. Take a few different shots and ask an honest friend which one makes you look best.
Ensure You Have Good Hygiene
You’re taking this picture because you feel like you look great. Take the time and make sure that you do. You don’t want a photo of yourself floating around with a piece of broccoli stuck in your teeth.
Don’t Post Too Many
There is nothing worse than opening your social media account just to find a new selfie of the same person every day. Not only is it annoying, it makes them look like they are desperately seeking out attention.
Be Mindful of Your Selfie Stick
The selfie stick is one that many have a love-hate relationship with. It works nicely if you are trying to get a shot of you and your friends at your favorite place, but if someone else is using one and accidentally bops you with it, you’re furious. Just be mindful of your surroundings before busting it out.
Write an Interesting Caption
Give viewers something more than just your face to look at. Write a witty, funny, or interesting remark as a caption. It gives you a chance to show off your looks and your brain.
Say No to the Duck Face
Just don’t do it. The duck face is a look that didn’t take long to irk people the wrong way. You taking selfies with a duck face looks to others that you are trying too hard to be someone you’re not.
Do Pose In Front of Beautiful Backgrounds
Taking pictures is more than just fun; it’s art. Position yourself in front of something that is nice to look at. Skip the bathroom shots and try a baseball game, a landmark, or beautiful scenery.
Use Good Taste
You might look great in your new set of lingerie, but everyone doesn’t need to see it. Keep the private photos to yourself.
Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
Don’t wait until you’re in full hair and makeup to show off. Take a shot when you aren’t necessarily appearing perfect. It shows that you are not afraid of who you are and looks aren’t everything.
To selfie or not is a pretty big question these days. It’s okay, just be sure you do it the right way.
