Making your eyes pop can add serious panache to your look. And when you want to call attention to your eyes, you want them to look big and beautiful. No matter what size or shape they are, we have makeup tips to make your eyes look bigger and attract all the attention.
Use Eyeliner
This is a must, to really add detail and make your eyes stand out. But do not add too much eyeliner. A thick line, especially on smaller eyes, decreases the lid space, making eyes look much smaller. You need space for shadow. Get a precise line with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, a liquid eyeliner pen that comes in both black and brown. If you have smaller eyes, try a ¾ line, forgoing the inner eye and adding highlighter there later.
Go Easy Underneath Eyes
Lining your lower waterline can actually make eyes appear smaller, as can sharp undereye liner. In making eyes appear bigger, you need both shading and light to play off of each other. Try using a shadow with an angled liner brush to add some soft shading along the lower lash line, while keeping the waterline bare. The dual Sephora Collection Classic Double-Ended Angled Liner and Smudge Brush lets you lightly apply shadow as liner and then you can soften with the smudging end.
Define Your Crease
By defining your eyelid crease and bringing the shadow slightly above it, almost onto the brow bone, you are creating the illusion of bigger eyes by adding depth and dimension. Go light on the shadow application in your crease and blend, blend, blend. We love the Japonesque Crease Blending Brush to easily attain the perfect crease.
Highlight
Highlight your brow bone and inner eye for additional dimension. Depending on your eye makeup, you can even pop a bit of highlighter onto the center of your lid to draw attention to your eyes. The Benefit High Brow Lift & Highlight Pencil is a cult fave that comes in both matte and luminous You can use that or your face highlighter for the inner eye, or try blending on the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.
Curl Your Lashes
Curling your eyelashes really opens up your eyes and makes them look bigger. Lifted lashes make the eye itself easier to see and add to the shading. The Shiseido Eyelash Curler is great for holding a curl and the pads are replaceable. If you have rounder eyes, try the Revlon Extra Curl Eyelash Curler. For even longer curl, heat the curlers with a blow dryer before curling (but don’t get them too hot!).
Perfect Brows
Your brows frame your eyes, so do not forget about them. Shape them with the Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW™ Pomade and fill in any sparse spots with their Brow Wiz
Incorporating these tips and tricks into your makeup routine ensures your eyes always look big and defined. Let us know what works for you.
