Acne is a real pain, literally and figuratively! Even if you’re looking amazing in every other way, a volcanic spot on your nose can completely deplete your self-confidence. While certain makeup tips will cover up much of the evidence, it’s a hassle to get ready in the morning with zits that need disguising. To achieve a fresh, pimple-free look, you don’t need to spend a fortune. Instead, your home has a ton of everyday items that can work wonders. Here are some of my favorite ways to prevent acne.

Ways to Prevent Acne

#1 Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is not only a fantastic antibacterial solution which is essential for spot banishment, but it is also an astringent which removes excess oil. A small amount mixed with water and applied using a cotton ball can help on stubborn spots.

#2 Egg Whites

Whisking up egg whites is a great way of feeding your skin protein. That’s right, they are good for more than just breakfast! When stiff, they’re easy to apply as a mask and will give your face the nutrients it needs to repair any damaged areas.

#3 Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of nature’s great remedies for your skin. A small amount applied directly to a trouble spot can clean out the area and reduce swelling. This is an ideal treatment for those who get very large, obvious pimples that are hard to cover up. Regularly applying it before bed can prevent future breakouts.

#4 Aloe

Much like tea tree, the aloe plant is another natural healer. You can even grow it in your home and pick a few leaves whenever you have a breakout. When applied directly to the skin, aloe acts as an antibacterial agent and soothes particularly red and angry blemishes.

#5 Baking Soda

Baking soda, when mixed with water and applied to your face, is a fantastic way of cleaning and exfoliating. It’s also helpful for taking the sting out of particularly angry, painful spots and will assist in the reduction of swelling.

#6 Garlic

Garlic is packed with antioxidants and antibacterial agents. The problem is, it does smell. Before bed, you might want to rub some onto your breakout areas and allow it to work it’s magic overnight. In the morning, you can then wash away the aroma.

#7 Lemon

Lemon is bursting with vitamins, minerals, and antibacterial agents, and is also a natural astringent. This makes it wonderful for the skin. Applying it directly to the face can sting, so it’s worth mixing lemon with water, honey, or yogurt to create a face mask. Another plus? Lemon will also tighten the skin up and help reduce wrinkles.

#8 Probiotics

Probiotics can come in many forms – yogurts, drinks, and even supplements. Taking them every day will help keep your immunity strong enough to fight off infection and tackle blemishes.
