Clever Ways To Give Your Lips Color Without Lipstick
Lipstick is great for giving your lips a vivid color in a variety of hues, but there’s always the risk that it will rub off. A high-quality lipstick will last longer, but if you’re a regular lipstick junkie, it can get a little pricey always throwing money at the higher-end lipsticks. Below are several hacks to help you get those gorgeous red lips without always digging for the lipstick. Then you can save the lipstick as an accent for special occasions.
Opt For A Lip Stain
If you want color to last and last, find a lip stain product, rather than just a basic lipstick. Products like L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain or NYC Smooch Proof 16HR Lip Stain give a bold color and then leave a light after-stain once the initial blazing color fades.
DIY Lip Scrub
Another option is to accentuate your natural lip color. There are plenty of ways to get your lips to look pinker on their own. One way is to create a homemade scrub with equal parts lemon juice, sugar and honey. Scrub for a couple minutes and watch your lips turn a brighter pink. You can also try gently scrubbing your lips with a soft bristle toothbrush before bed each night.
Rose Red Lips, Literally
You can also combine crushed rose petals and Vaseline for a stain that’s reported to last up to two months. Just combine a few rose petals, a glob of Vaseline, mush them together until the Vaseline has a strong rose hue and then leave the mixture on your lips for five to ten minutes. Rub the mixture into your lips periodically, and then wipe it off with a rag. Make sure your lips are highly moisturized for the deepest stain uptake.
Beetroot
A natural, long-lasting stain for lips is beetroot. Apply beetroot juice to your lips right before bed each night. The stain will last the whole next day, or possibly even until you wash it off.
You can even make your own homemade lipstick using beetroot powder. For an easy recipe, combine one part beetroot powder to one part vegetable glycerin and stir until they’re mixed completely. Apply like a gloss using your finger or a lipstick brush. Other popular additives for beetroot lip treatments include natural oils like coconut oil, melted beeswax, shea butter and vitamin E oil. Feel free to experiment.
Pomegranate
If you’re a professed pomegranate addict, this delicious method will be something you’ll want to try. Crush the seeds of a pomegranate and apply the juice to your lips like the beetroot juice. As a side note, you can also try the same thing with carrot juice.
Tinted Lip Balm
If you’d like to add just a hint of color and shine, consider lip balms. These products also moisturize and nourish lips. Some even come with SPF, like Nivea A Kiss of Shine Glossy Lip Care. You can even opt for natural products that contain ingredients like peppermint oil, such as Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm. Peppermint is a popular way to increase the redness of lips, since it’s supposed to cause lip swelling and increase circulation to the lips.
